eigenwallet (formerly UnstoppableSwap) and Monero (XMR): atomic swaps vs a swap service
eigenwallet, formerly called UnstoppableSwap, is an open-source desktop wallet that swaps Bitcoin for Monero with atomic swaps: a market maker sells you XMR, and the two blockchains enforce the trade. SilentXMR is a swap service you use in a browser, from six coins. Here is what each asks of you.

What eigenwallet is
eigenwallet describes itself as a Monero and Bitcoin wallet and a decentralized exchange for swapping Bitcoin for Monero. It was formerly called UnstoppableSwap, and its docs say it has been live for more than 3 years. The code is open source under the GPL-3.0 licence; the latest release on GitHub was 4.16.1, published on 13 October 2026. It runs on Linux, macOS and Windows, and its site says mobile support is coming. Its home page also lists buying Monero with euros by SEPA transfer, in the EU only.
In a swap you are always the taker: you send Bitcoin, and a market maker gives you Monero. Each maker sets its own rate as a markup over centralized-exchange prices (its docs use 3% as an example and call it the maker's fee), plus its own minimum and maximum. You first deposit BTC into the app's own wallet, pick an offer and confirm it within a few minutes. The docs say the Bitcoin lock usually confirms in about 10 minutes and the maker's Monero lock about 2 minutes later, and then each side redeems.
If a swap doesn't complete within about 4 hours (24 Bitcoin blocks), it can be cancelled and you refund your Bitcoin; the refund window then lasts about 24 hours. If you don't refund within it, the maker can take the Bitcoin, though the app only needs to run for a few minutes during that window to refund. Some makers ask for an anti-spam deposit: on a refund you first get back, for example, 95%, and the rest usually after a short timelock, though a maker can withhold it in rare cases.
