Cake Wallet: set up a Monero (XMR) wallet and receive XMR
Cake Wallet is a free, open-source wallet for Monero and many other coins, on phones and computers. This guide follows Cake's own docs to set up an XMR wallet, then shows how to get XMR into it.
Quick answer
- What it is: an open-source, non-custodial multi-coin wallet with Monero, for iOS, Android, macOS and Linux. Latest release v6.5.0 (12 October 2026).
- Setup: new Monero wallets use a 16-word Polyseed by default. Write it on paper.
- To receive: the Receive screen shows a subaddress starting with 8, and Cake makes a new one after each is used.
- To fund it: swap BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC, LTC or SOL to XMR here and paste your Cake address.

What Cake Wallet is
Cake Wallet describes itself as a non-custodial multi-currency wallet. Its sister app, Monero.com, holds Monero only. Both are open source under the MIT licence. Besides Monero, Cake Wallet supports coins such as BTC, LTC, ETH, SOL, TRX, ZEC, BCH and DOGE.
Cake doesn't charge a fee to send or receive: you pay only the network fee. Its in-app swaps and purchases go through outside providers, which build their own fee into the rate they quote.

Create a Monero wallet in Cake
- Install Cake Wallet from the App Store, Google Play, F-Droid or Cake's GitHub releases.
- Open it and set a PIN.
- Create a new wallet and choose Monero.
- Keep the default 16-word Polyseed, or choose a 25-word or 12-word seed. Under Advanced Settings you can add an optional passphrase.
- Write the seed down on paper. Cake's docs say never to share it or type it into a website, and that Cake support will never ask for it.
Find your Cake Wallet receive address
- Open your Monero wallet and go to Receive.
- Copy the address shown. It is a subaddress and starts with 8. Your main address starts with 4.
- Cake creates a new subaddress automatically after each one is used, and you can label them.
Got your Cake address? Fund it with XMR now.
- Kraken's live price minus 0.5%. You see exactly what you get before you send.
- Your rate is locked the moment you create the order. No countdown, no re-quote.
- BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC, LTC or SOL in, XMR out to your address. Or the other way round.
Get XMR into Cake Wallet
If you already hold another coin, a swap sends XMR straight to your Cake address:
- In the swap card, choose the coin you hold: BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC, LTC or SOL.
- Paste your Cake Wallet Monero address as the XMR address.
- Create the order. You see the exact XMR amount, at Kraken's price minus 0.5%, and it is locked at that moment.
- Send the exact amount to the deposit address on your order.
- Once your deposit confirms, the XMR is sent by hand to your Cake address.
Cake also offers in-app swaps and purchases through its partners. Their rates, limits and any checks are set by those providers. Starting from cash? See where to buy Monero.
Restore a Monero wallet in Cake
- Choose Restore Wallet, then Restore from seed/keys, and select Monero.
- Pick the seed type: Polyseed (16 words), Legacy (25 words) or BIP39 (12 words).
- Set the restore point by block height or by date, so the sync starts from the right place.
Moving from Exodus or MyMonero? Exodus ended Monero support on 18 August 2025, and MyMonero closed on 6 January 2026. Both point their users to Cake Wallet to restore their XMR with their seed.
Get Monero in your own wallet. No account, no ID.
- Kraken's live price minus 0.5%. You see exactly what you get before you send.
- Your rate is locked the moment you create the order. No countdown, no re-quote.
- BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC, LTC or SOL in, XMR out to your address. Or the other way round.
